Run by Andy Wortley, formerly IT Director at one of the world's two largest equipment rental companies.

// What we do

Six things, practised together.

Reporting & management visibility

The recurring win. Replacing teams of people manually compiling data with reports the business actually trusts. Built on top of the systems you already have — not against them. Often the highest-value piece of any engagement, even when it wasn't the original ask.

  • Power BI · SSRS
  • SQL Server
  • Dashboards
  • Board reporting

Strategic technology advisory

Boards, MDs, and operators who need someone with operational and technical pedigree to tell them what's wrong, what's worth doing, and what to leave alone. No platform to sell.

Portals & modern interfaces

Web and mobile portals for customers, suppliers, and your own team — built on top of your existing ERP rather than replacing it. The fastest-growing area of work.

  • Customer portals
  • Supplier extranets
  • Mobile apps
  • Intranets

Infrastructure & networking

Estates managed up to 4,000 users and 250+ virtual servers, with no working-hours downtime for over a decade other than isolated network faults. Cloud, hybrid, on-premise, or private data-centre — whichever fits.

ERP & integration

Deep specialism in rental ERPs and the integration layer around them. Removing paper processes, connecting systems, transferring data, and making the rest of the business actually talk to the ERP.

  • System integration
  • Data transfer
  • OCR & automation

Acquisition integration

Seventy-plus acquisitions integrated onto group systems. Fastest, in a single day. Largest, seventy depots over four weekends. The discipline that turns a paper deal into a working business.

The right IT leader, for the business

Rental companies often recruit a CIO when they actually need a CTO. CIOs are strategic and blue-sky — well suited to financial services. Rental is reactive, hands-on, operational. We help find people who fit the business they're actually running.

Process & operational reviews

Sometimes the problem isn't technology at all. Forty years across operations and IT leadership is enough perspective to spot a process issue from across the room. Done these reviews where IT wasn't even in the brief.

  • Commercial review
  • Process redesign
  • Depot openings & closures

// Story

Not an IT firm that learned rental.
A rental operator who learned IT.

Ventrivo is run by Andy Wortley, who has spent forty years inside the equipment rental industry — and not in any one role.

Started at seventeen as a driver. Then the workshop. Then behind the counter. Then management, then area management. Eventually "because nobody else would do it", dragged into IT. That's thirteen years on the operational side first — and it's the thing that makes the rest of the work possible. When we walk into a depot, we don't have to translate.

Then the implementer years at one of the major rental software vendors. Then nearly two decades building and running the IT department at one of the world's two largest rental companies — the operation other businesses benchmarked against.

Ventrivo started in 2019. No marketing. Word of mouth only. The work has spread from rental into adjacent industries — investments, acquisitions, even the odd car dealership and law firm — because the underlying skill is recognising broken patterns in operational businesses.

1986 – 1999
Operations
Driver, workshop, counter, manager, area manager. Thirteen years inside a UK tool hire business that became part of a major group.
1999 – 2001
Implementer — MCS
Project-managing rental software installations across the UK, US, and globally. Many of those clients are still on MCS today.
2001 – 2018
IT Director — global rental group
Built the IT department from nothing to fifty people. UK, US, Singapore, Middle East. Seventy-plus acquisitions integrated. The benchmark operation other rental businesses tried to beat.
2019 →
Ventrivo founded
Active investor, technology partner, and operator. Engagements range from rental groups to PE portfolio companies to one-off advisory.
2021 – 2023
GAP Group — in parallel
Engaged alongside Ventrivo by the UK's largest privately-held rental company. Two years of senior technology work.

Sold Two-year hold · Ventrivo investment

SRL Traffic Systems — investment & exit

One of Ventrivo's first engagements alongside a private equity house. Walked in to a business with a tired technology stack and the usual symptoms: people manually compiling reports, limited visibility into the operation, infrastructure long overdue for a refresh.

Sorted the infrastructure, built the reporting that didn't exist, fixed what was holding management back. Sold two years later — described by the PE house as one of the best deals they had ever done.

70 depots 4 weekends · 2001

BET integration — at speed

The acquired BET tool hire business integrated into Sunbelt Rentals US over four consecutive weekends — seventy depots, all migrated onto group systems and trading on Monday morning each time.

Set the operational template that would later be applied to seventy further acquisitions. The fastest single-business integration since: one day from completion to live on group systems.

3,500 Users · 250 sites · 2002

US regional consolidation — three into one

Merged three US operating regions of a major rental company onto a single platform with a consolidated support office in Charlotte, North Carolina. Around 3,500 users and 250 sites. The kind of programme that goes badly wrong as often as it goes right; this one didn't.

Followed the next year by the same exercise in the UK — four regions, 1,500 users, 270 sites — harder for cultural reasons than technical ones. Both delivered.

First Industry-first · 2004

Customer portals — the rental industry's first

In 2004, designed and rolled out the rental industry's first customer-facing portals in both the UK and the US. Press coverage at the time treated it as a curiosity; within five years, every serious rental operator was scrambling to copy the model.

Followed by a supplier extranet, an OCR-driven purchase ledger, a satellite-tracking system for plant, mobile signature capture for drivers and fitters, and the manless "Auto Tool Cabin" depot — operating like a hotel mini-bar — that won industry awards. None of it bought from a vendor; all built around the existing ERP.

Sideways Adjacent industries

The work keeps spinning sideways

One investment led to a car dealership in Ireland — completely unexpected. Another to a process review for a rental business that wasn't an IT problem at all. Another to helping a law firm find a key hire.

The skill that travels isn't IT. It's understanding how operational businesses actually work, and being willing to fix what's in front of you, whatever it turns out to be.

Names and numbers, matched to your situation.

Ventrivo's work is broad, and the right reference depends on what you're trying to do. A US rental MD doesn't need to hear from a UK car dealership; an investor evaluating a deal doesn't need a process-review testimonial.

So we keep the public site quiet, and provide references and case-study contacts matched to the conversation you're actually having.

References, testimonials, and case-study introductions are available on request — usually within twenty-four hours. Tell us the kind of business you're running and the problem you're looking at, and we'll put you in touch with someone who's been through it.
